Witching Hour Tavern

I actually received my initial concept from Halloween decoration signs at the dollar store which showed menus for the 'Spider's Web Deadly Diner' and the 'Roadkill Tavern'

My project was to create and design a fictional restaurant that revolved around the holiday of Halloween, and from there came the idea of the 'Witching Hour Tavern’.

"...Once a year there can be found a small tavern at the end of Cemetery Lane, number 1313 to be specific. Very few know of it’s mysterious origin or why many have sworn to only have caught a glimpse long into Hallow’s Eve night, though all will agree it is filled to the brim with Witches and Goblins and Ghoulies alike.

A unique 4 course dining experience awaits those lucky enough to get an illusive invitation to join in on the frightful fun. The night will feature a menu that caters to those who enjoy their dishes a bit more creepy and crawly, with the freshest ingredients coming straight from the dead of night..."

Along with creating the background story and components of the tavern, I also designed a menu and invitations for the

event that will take place on Halloween night. The tavern is host to an annual

Halloween bash that will begin at the eleventh chime of the clock and last until 2am, with a menu that caters to all of those who are a bit more of creatures of the night.

First I chose a color palette that consisted of an olive green, dark purple, pumpkin orange, cream, light blue, gray, and black. Next came the font choice for the logo and the other text elements throughout the project, which were Tratello (used for the Witching Hour) and EtharnigNo12 (used for Tavern), though there were many fonts thatI had considered throughout this project. I also created four different patterns that I was considering for this project, though I ended up narrowing it down to the two that I felt best suited the look that I was attempting to convey. I had intended to use all four of these patterns that I created, that focused around a series of lines or dots that are comprised of the main colors that comprise my color palette.

The two designs that I chose to utilize are the small dots on the black background and the horizontal striped gradient.

I felt that the various-sized circles on the white background and the vertical solid striped designs did not fit my concept as well as I had originally intended, and ultimately made the decision to scrap those two.

The menu features the well-known quote often tied to witches, "Double double toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble, eye of newt and toe of frog, wool of bat and tongue of dog, by the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes" , a four course meal consisting of appetizers, soups & sides, entrees, and desserts, along with drinks.

While everyone may be hoping to attend this event, they will be disappointed to discover that this event is highly exclusive and is invitation only. If you are one of the lucky few, you may just find a copy of the following invitation has appeared within your own home.
